Dinslaken, 27 May 2026

Two children were fatally struck by a car while on their way to school in Dinslaken shortly before classes began on Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred around 7:45 a.m., shattering the morning routine and leaving the community in a state of shock. A 47-year-old woman behind the wheel of the car was seriously injured in the collision.

Police spokesperson Henner Störmer of the Wesel district police authority said the damage to the vehicle suggested a relatively high impact speed. "The pattern of damage at least allows the conclusion that the impact speed must have been relatively high," Störmer stated.

The tragedy has drawn horrified reactions from top officials in North Rhine-Westphalia. State Interior Minister Herbert Reul of the CDU described the news as "terrible."
