A car driver plowed into a group of cyclists in the southern Dutch village of Vogelwaarde near the border on Thursday, killing at least three people, including two children.
What happened
According to the authorities, the accident involved a cycling tour as part of a school outing. The group consisted of 14 children and two supervisors. As the authorities of the province of Zeeland announced on Thursday, at least three people were killed, including two children. AFP was the first to report on the incident.
In addition, four children belonging to the cycling group were seriously injured and taken to a hospital. The age of the children was initially not known. Recovery and rescue operations were underway at the accident site on Thursday.
