In Klostermansfeld in Saxony-Anhalt, the official groundbreaking took place on Wednesday for what the operator says is Germany's largest battery storage facility, which from 2028 is to store up to 5.7 gigawatt-hours of electricity and, on paper, supply around three million households.

Operator BW ESS is building the facility with a planned output of 1,000 megawatts on an area of 15 hectares. Strømsø provided no details on the investment sum.
