The Swedish writer Håkan Nesser is working with an ankle monitor in a museum on the Baltic Sea island of Gotland after the end of his prison sentence, where he is preparing his next book project.

According to his own statements, Nesser has taken up a position at the museum, which, according to the available information, is located on Gotland. As reported by the news agency TT, he said with regard to the end of his sentence: „Jetzt habe ich die volle Freiheit, jetzt werde ich arbeiten“. The ankle monitor he is required to wear limits his range of movement but does not prevent him from taking up employment.

The 64-year-old author was sentenced in 2024 to 18 months in prison for allegedly evading nearly 15 million Swedish kronor (approximately 1.4 million euros) in taxes together with his wife. After the end of his incarceration, he is serving the remaining time with an ankle monitor, which allows him to pursue regular work.
