Hamburg, July 4, 2026

The 32nd Hamburg Half Marathon, which was canceled on June 26 due to expected temperatures of up to 35 degrees Celsius, will be rescheduled for October 25, as the organizers announced on a Friday.

The organizers stated that the starting spots of the approximately 24,000 affected participants would be automatically transferred to the new date on October 25. Those unable to start on that day would have the option to receive a refund for their starting place and any booked additional services. The technical handling of the deregistration is to be completed by the end of the month, after which withdrawal will be possible for four weeks.

The organizers justified the original cancellation on June 26 with expected temperatures of up to 35 degrees Celsius. Given these conditions, they said they did not want to endanger the health of the runners. The potential damage from the cancellation is estimated by the organizers to be in the mid-six-figure euro range.

Reasons for the Cancellation

For the rescheduled date, the organizers announced minor adjustments, particularly in the finish area on the exhibition grounds. All booked additional services will also be transferred to the new date, meaning that no further steps are initially required for those registered.

In a statement on the event website, the organizers expressed optimism: "Aus der Sommerparty wird also eine Herbstsause. Kühle Temperaturen statt Hitzeschlacht. Da stünde selbst einer Jagd nach neuen Bestzeiten nichts mehr im Wege." The website also stated: "Es wird an dem Tag definitiv nicht zu heiß sein."
