The persistent drought in Saxony-Anhalt is jeopardizing the quality and yield of the 2026 harvest—particularly in the south and east of the state—according to the regional farmers' association. Many farms are increasingly facing liquidity bottlenecks, and farmers have little hope of better revenues.

The Landesbauernverband Sachsen-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt State Farmers' Association) sees the 2026 harvest under massive pressure from persistent drought, high production costs, and uncertain markets, while significant yield losses and quality risks for wheat are threatening parts of the south and east of the state.

According to the association's assessment, the starting position for this year's harvest in Saxony-Anhalt is extremely difficult. The association's president and managing directors pointed to major regional differences, as shown in a balance sheet published on July 3: "Große Unterschiede bei Erträgen und Qualitäten, unsichere Marktentwicklungen und weiterhin sehr hohe Produktionskosten prägen die Ausgangslage.
