Head-on crash on the L86 in St. Peter/Au: Two drivers seriously injured

A large contingent of emergency services was deployed on Thursday evening at a serious traffic accident in St. Peter/Au (district of Amstetten). Both drivers suffered serious injuries and had to be freed from the vehicles by firefighters.

Major operation with around 40 firefighters

The fire departments from St. Peter in der Au and Weistrach rescued the two injured persons together with the Red Cross from the damaged vehicles. A total of about 40 firefighters were on site; the Haag fire department was additionally called in to recover the wrecked vehicles.

While the situation appeared less dramatic in the initial alarm reports, reinforcements of the required emergency personnel had already been initiated during the approach, reports the Red Cross of the St. Peter/Au district office.

Rescue helicopters transport injured to hospitals

After initial treatment by the emergency doctor, the rescue helicopter took the two men to the Amstetten State Clinic and the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Klinikum Steyr, respectively. The Christophorus helicopter was also deployed, as was the C2 rescue helicopter from Krems.

Drunk driver reported

As the police announced, one of the drivers was intoxicated. "Ein mit dem 57-jährigen Lenker durchgeführter Alkomattest verlief positiv." His driver's license was temporarily confiscated. "Er wird der zuständigen Bezirksverwaltungsbehörde Amstetten angezeigt" and "muss mit Anzeigen rechnen."

The emergency services bound leaked operating fluids and cleaned the roadway. The road was closed for the duration of the operation, and traffic was diverted locally.

Investigations into the exact course of the accident are ongoing. According to the emergency services, the accident was a head-on collision on the L86 in which two car drivers were seriously injured.
