After the peak of the heatwave on Sunday, the intense heat in Austria only slowly subsides at the start of the week, while at the same time the risk of severe weather rises, as GeoSphere Austria reports in its weekly forecast.
On Monday, early temperatures will be between 16 and 28 degrees, according to GeoSphere Austria, with daytime highs still ranging from west to east at around 26 to almost 40 degrees. This means it will remain "am Montag noch immer heiß mit bis zu 40 Grad", as the meteorologists write. It is not until Thursday that daytime highs drop back below 30 degrees.
In the eastern half of the country, sunshine often predominates all day, with only weak to moderate wind from east to south. In the western half, sunshine often dominates initially on Monday. Only in Vorarlberg and the Tyrolean Oberland can the first shower or thunderstorm cells occur early in the morning and during the forenoon.
