The Iran-backed Hezbollah militia has declared that the ceasefire agreed between the US and Iran to end military confrontations explicitly also applies to Lebanon.
The Shia Hezbollah, which operates from Lebanon, welcomed the agreement between Washington and Tehran and praised the Iranian side's conduct of the negotiations. In a statement circulated on Monday, it said it had halted its operations against Israel. At the same time, Hezbollah warned that it would defend itself should there be new attacks from the Israeli side.
The statement explicitly references the agreement between the US and Iran, which according to Hezbollah also includes Lebanon. It pointed to the "legitimen und unveräußerlichen Recht des Libanon, sein Land, seine Menschen und Souveränität zu verteidigen, bis ein vollständiger Abzug erreicht ist und die Gefangenen zurückgekehrt sind" – until then, Hezbollah said it remained ready to hold its positions.
