A Hong Kong court declared on Friday three pro-democracy activists guilty of inciting other people to organize and participate in unauthorized vigils commemorating the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown.

The ruling, handed down in the Hong Kong special administrative region, targets three figures of local civil society regularly associated with the annual commemorations of 4 June 1989 in Tiananmen Square in Beijing. According to the court's decision, consulted by several news agencies, the defendants were found guilty of inciting other people to organize, plan, commit or participate in illegal acts and to undermine the power of the State, as well as of calling for the end of the single-party regime, in violation of the Chinese Constitution. The court summarized the charges as follows: the accused had "andere Personen dazu angestiftet, illegale Handlungen zu organisieren, zu planen, zu begehen oder sich daran zu beteiligen".
