Hourly wages in Berlin and Brandenburg rise again – men dominate top earners

In Brandenburg, the increase was somewhat more modest: "Der durchschnittliche Bruttostundenverdienst lag in Brandenburg im April 2025 bei 22,66 Euro". Wages in the neighboring state also continued to rise compared to previous surveys. The range of hourly wages begins in the statistics at 12 euros because the minimum wage in 2025 was 12.82 euros: "Die Spanne von 12 bis unter 13 Euro umfasst auch den Mindestlohn von 12,82 Euro im Jahr 2025".

In Brandenburg, "konzentrierten sich die Verdienste vor allem im Bereich zwischen 12 und 18 Euro pro Stunde". A large share of employees therefore work in the lower and middle wage ranges. At the same time, "kamen Beschäftigte in Brandenburg im Jahr 2025 demnach im Durchschnitt auf 41.694 Euro" gross annual earnings including special payments.

For full-time employees in Brandenburg, the gross hourly wage was "für Vollzeitbeschäftigte bei 24,10 Euro". This means Brandenburg remained below the Berlin average, but also above the nationwide minimum wage level.

Top earners in Berlin: men dominate

In Berlin, the distribution between the genders is particularly unequal. "In den unteren Lohngruppen bis unter 15 Euro überwogen dagegen Männer". The top bracket of 65 euros per hour and above also shows a clear imbalance: "Rund 40.000 Beschäftigte verdienten 65 Euro oder mehr pro Stunde und damit mehr als 10.000 Euro brutto pro Monat bei einer Vollzeitstelle".

The top wage bracket accounts for only a small share of employees: "In dieser obersten Stufe sind also ein Prozent der Berlinerinnen und Berliner". Within this group, "waren laut der veröffentlichten Grafik etwa 30.000 Männer und 10.000 Frauen" – a ratio of three to one. The statistical office assesses this as a "markante Dominanz männlicher Beschäftigter".

Women in Berlin, by contrast, are overrepresented in the middle wage ranges. "Frauen waren in Berlin nach Angaben des Amts für Statistik Berlin-Brandenburg vor allem in den mittleren Stundenlohnklassen häufiger vertreten. Besonders auffällig war das im Bereich zwischen 21 und 26 Euro pro Stunde". Many women thus earn more than the minimum wage, but rarely reach the highest hourly wages.

Methodological notes on the statistics

When interpreting the figures, it should be noted that the statistics only capture certain employment relationships. "Berücksichtigt wurden nur Beschäftigungsverhältnisse, die im Berichtsjahr mindestens sieben Monate bestanden". Short-term jobs, minijobs, or periods without employment are therefore excluded. In addition: "Bei den Stundenverdiensten sind Sonderzahlungen nicht eingerechnet, bei den Jahresverdiensten dagegen schon."

The underlying question of the statistics is: "Wie verteilen sich die Stundensätze zwischen den Geschlechtern?". The data presented give a clear answer to this: while hourly wages overall are rising, the gender-specific distribution at the top remains very unequal.

Overall, the new figures show a divided picture: rising average earnings in both states, but a persistently clear dominance of men in the highest earnings bracket in Berlin, as well as a concentration of many employees in Brandenburg in the range around the minimum wage.

The data from the Office for Statistics Berlin-Brandenburg are considered an official source on earnings structures in the region. They feed into collective bargaining negotiations, political debates on wage inequality, and economic policy analyses, among other things.
