Blomberg, 31 May 2026
HSG Blomberg-Lippe secured their first German women's handball championship in club history with a 30:26 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the third and deciding match of the finals series on Sunday evening.
A Tight First Half
The team coached by Steffen Birkner edged a tight contest in their home arena, the Sporthalle an der Ulmenallee, after the best-of-three series had been locked at one win apiece. Dortmund had taken the opening game 28:27 on their own court, before Blomberg responded with a 28:27 home win to force the decider.
The final match was a tense, physical affair from the opening whistle. Borussia Dortmund, coached by former national team coach Henk Groener, struck first through Lisa Antl after five minutes. Blomberg goalkeeper Melanie Veith made several early saves to keep the hosts in touch, but goals from Emma Olsson and Kelly Vollebregt pushed Dortmund into a 7:5 lead by the 16th minute.
