On Thursday, the second round of criminal proceedings against René Benko began at the Regional Court of Innsbruck, dealing among other things with the rent for a villa on the Hungerberg and a gift to his mother.

Already on the first day of the hearings, a central point of the proceedings was confirmed: the Supreme Court of Justice (OGH) had upheld a conviction on the second charge in an earlier decision. This concerns a gift of 300,000 euros to the defendant's mother.

The Economic and Corruption Prosecutor's Office (WKStA) accuses Benko of having arranged unlawfully high rent payments to the owners of the Hungerburg villa in the course of real estate transactions. The rent is said to have been significantly above market rates. In addition, the case involves a gift of 300,000 euros to the defendant's mother.
