A 26-year-old hiker from the province of Bergamo was rammed and injured by a suddenly appearing ibex on Sunday afternoon in the Trentino Alps.

The woman was hiking together with her 21-year-old companion on the so-called "Sentiero degli Austriaci" ("Path of the Austrians") near the municipality of Vermiglio in the Val di Sole valley, when the incident occurred at an altitude of about 2,900 meters. As mountain rescue reported, the animal suddenly jumped out of a cave below the Albiolo peak onto the narrow mountain path and struck the hiker.

The impact caused the woman to fall about 20 meters down a steep slope. She suffered injuries to her abdomen and ankle. Her 21-year-old companion was uninjured and made the emergency call.
