According to procurement documents, the US immigration agency ICE is planning to purchase robot dogs made by manufacturer Boston Dynamics and is willing to spend up to two million dollars on them.
The US immigration agency ICE is considering deploying Boston Dynamics robot dogs in deportation operations and other domestic missions. Official procurement documents indicate that up to two million dollars is to be spent on the four-legged robots. Boston Dynamics describes itself as a manufacturer of mobile robots and is among the best-known providers of so-called robot dogs.
The procurement documents describe the planned use of the devices only in general terms. According to them, the robots are to be used, among other things, for situational awareness and hazard assessment. The documents contain no specific references to deployments in deportation raids; an ICE spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.
