Virtual Zoo Without Real Enclosures

The centerpiece is a virtual zoo of the future, where you can interact with the animals – completely without real enclosures. This concept is described as being absolutely in line with animal welfare and sustainability. In addition to new content for the main show, the exhibition particularly scores with state-of-the-art AI technology. A new, immersive "Art Station" as well as interactive hands-on stations for the whole family round out the offering. The show is thus explicitly aimed at families, school classes, and anyone who wants to experience nature in a new, digital way.

New Technology and Hands-On Stations

The content guides visitors through different habitats – from the smallest underwater creatures to the deep sea, on to the ocean and further into Kruger National Park. The award-winning documentaries from ORF Universum provide the visual foundations, which merge through 360-degree technology and AI elements into a new overall experience. Markus Beyr is involved in the project as a co-creator.

Prominent Guests at the Opening

Numerous prominent guests appeared at the festive reopening in Vienna. Alongside Simone Lugner, entertainer Andy Lee Lang, former tennis star Stefan Koubek, as well as model and singer Beatrice Turin were also among those in attendance. They opened the new exhibition with a joint tour through the experiential worlds.

The exhibition sees itself as a contribution to greater animal welfare and sustainability. Through the virtual staging, no animals need to be kept in enclosures, and visitors still receive authentic impressions from different ecosystems. The WWF was involved in the conception as a cooperation partner.

Focus on Animal Welfare and Sustainability

With its concept, IMMERSIUM:Wien appeals to a broad target audience: families with children, teenagers, adults, and school groups. The mix of documentary material, interactive stations, and immersive projection is intended to both entertain and convey knowledge about biodiversity and nature conservation. The exhibition is easily accessible in the heart of central Vienna.

Advance ticket sales for the summer 2026 resumption are already underway. Interested visitors can purchase tickets through the usual advance booking outlets and the IMMERSIUM:Wien website. Due to limited capacities per time slot, early booking is recommended, especially for families and groups.

With this new run, IMMERSIUM:Wien aims to build on the success of previous editions. The combination of nature documentary, immersive technology, and interactive hands-on stations makes the show an experience that links digital staging with classical knowledge transfer – thus opening up new perspectives on the planet and its inhabitants.
