Berlin, 18 July 2026

Despite a complaint filed by the human rights organization FairSquare with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), FIFA President Gianni Infantino is heading toward a fourth term with broad backing from his member associations, which is to be officially confirmed at the FIFA Congress on 18 March 2027 in Rabat.

As the Guardian reports, more than 200 of the 211 FIFA member associations have submitted letters of support for Infantino. Already around the FIFA Congress at the end of April in Vancouver, associations from South America, Africa, and Asia had pledged their joint support, securing Infantino the necessary majority in advance. With this backing, a fourth term for the 56-year-old is considered virtually certain; official candidacies can still be submitted until Wednesday, 18 November 2026.
