The insolvent drug manufacturer R-Pharm is on the brink of final shutdown and is planning to close its plant in Illertissen.
The long-established company from Swabian Illertissen had struggled with massive economic problems in recent years. According to company circles, the closure of production at the headquarters is now unavoidable because an economic restructuring no longer appears possible. This brings an end to a company history spanning more than 165 years, which began with the production of soap and drugstore articles.
Back in 1860, the Ulm entrepreneur Heinrich Mack began production in Illertissen. In the first decades, the factory produced soap and drugstore articles before the operation gradually concentrated on the manufacture of medicines. Over generations, the plant developed into an important employer in the Allgäu region and shaped the economic structure of the town.
