A Los Angeles County investigation has determined that Southern California Edison equipment ignited the 2025 Eaton fire, which devastated the community of Altadena and became one of the most destructive blazes in the county's history.

The finding, contained in court filings reviewed this week, traces the ignition to electrical arcing on a Southern California Edison tower that set dry brush underneath it on fire. Investigators concluded that the utility was responsible for maintaining and operating its power lines and equipment "de una manera que minimizara el riesgo de un incendio forestal catastrófico que estos representaban," according to the report.
