Following a train accident in Spain with multiple fatalities, authorities in Baden-Württemberg are examining the safety of regional rail services, while Spain’s independent accident investigation authority AITAT evaluates radio recordings.

Published records of the radio traffic suggest that a RENFE train driver was instructed by a control center employee to resume normal operations even though the automatic train protection system had not yet been restored and a train belonging to the private company Iryo was still on the track.

AITAT said it would evaluate the recordings in the coming days: "Die Daten sollen in den kommenden Tagen ausgewertet werden, wie die unabhängige Unfalluntersuchungsbehörde AITAT mitteilte." This is intended to provide a more detailed examination of the recorded communication sequences between the train and the control center.
