Investigations at Graz LKH: Death of Unborn Baby

Statements by the Medical Director

The medical director of the Graz LKH, Christian Kroschl, had previously made the case public in an interview with the Kronen Zeitung. He spoke of one of those fateful situations in obstetrics when a child dies in the womb. At the same time, Kroschl expressed concern about a wave of accusations and insinuations that had arisen on social networks following the incident.

The Graz public prosecutor's office told APA that, as part of the investigation, the medical history and the procedures surrounding the treatment are being examined, among other things. Expert opinions from medical experts are also planned in order to clarify the exact sequence of events. When first results can be expected remained initially unclear.

Status of the Investigation

KAGe announced that it would fully support the clarification of the case. All relevant documents would be made available to the authorities. At the same time, KAGe pointed to its established internal quality assurance processes, which are regularly reviewed.

The case raises questions about the procedures in the obstetrics department of the Graz LKH. A statement from the responsible political bodies, such as the health department of the province of Styria, was not available by evening.
