The body of Ali Khamenei arrived at Tehran's Grand Mosalla on Friday as Iran launched a week of funeral rites for its supreme leader, who was killed in US-Israeli strikes that triggered a wider Middle East war.

Coffin arrives at the Grand Mosalla

Iran's state media reported the arrival of Khamenei's body at the Grand Mosalla, one of the Islamic republic's most important ceremonial venues. Mourners clad in black carried the coffin, which was draped in Iran's tricolour flag, into the complex, where it was set down against a backdrop of red flowers and white butterflies suspended in the air.

Ahmad Vahidi, head of the Revolutionary Guards, made his first public appearance since the start of the war in February, paying his respects at Khamenei's coffin in footage aired by Iranian media. The Revolutionary Guards are the ideological arm of Iran's military and have played a central role in the conflict.
