Tehran, August 28, 2026

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has kept the door open for a diplomatic solution in the deadlocked conflict with the US and described the US government's pressure as ineffective.

Araghchi said on Thursday in Tehran that "Druck nicht funktioniert". He was referring to the sanctions and political measures of the US government against Iran. A diplomatic solution remained possible, he stressed.

The minister also spoke about possible intermediaries. He mentioned the Sultanate of Oman and Qatar as possible channels for talks. The Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani was also said to be involved in the process. These small Gulf states had previously served as bridge-builders in negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
