Israel's Likud Party, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, announced Wednesday that the coalition government had agreed to dissolve the Knesset ahead of schedule, triggering preparations for early national elections.
Coalition Proposal Details
The Likud Party stated in an official release: "Knesset wird vor Ablauf ihrer Amtszeit aufgelöst" ("The Knesset will be dissolved before the end of its term"). According to Israeli media reports corroborated by multiple sources, the dissolution bill could come to a vote as early as May 20.
Under the proposed legislation, new parliamentary elections would be held no sooner than 90 days after the law's passage, as stipulated by the Knesset committee process. The exact election date would be determined by parliamentary procedures once the dissolution is finalized.
