Jerusalem, July 12, 2026

The Knesset has set the date for the next parliamentary election in Israel for October 27, as several local media reported late on Sunday afternoon.

Setting the election date

The setting of the election date comes amid a phase of growing political uncertainty for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israeli law stipulates that the election must be held by October 27 – accordingly, parliament will hold its last session before the election on the coming Friday (July 17).

As the news agency APA reported on July 12, 2026, the Knesset had previously already passed a resolution on the election date. "Some months before the parliamentary election in Israel, October 27 is now set as the election date," the report stated. Previously, however, an earlier date for the election had also been discussed.
