Austria's IVF Fund, which has been supporting couples with unwanted childlessness for 26 years, will in future cover a larger share of treatment costs and reduce the out-of-pocket cost per attempt by an average of around 180 euros.
The IVF Fund was established 26 years ago to financially relieve couples with unwanted childlessness in Austria. An IVF treatment costs between 3,000 and 5,000 euros per attempt in this country, which is why state funding is crucial for many affected couples.
On average, the out-of-pocket cost — that is, the amount the couples themselves have to pay — drops by around 180 euros per attempt. A total of up to four attempts per couple are funded. According to the available data, a woman needs an average of 1.7 attempts to become pregnant.
