Nearly every second young person in Germany looks with envy at those generations who grew up without social media, as the JIMplus study, presented on Tuesday in Mainz by the Medienpädagogischer Forschungsverbund Südwest (MPFS), shows.

Among 14- to 17-year-olds, 47 percent agreed with the statement "Ich beneide Generationen, die ohne Social Media aufgewachsen sind." The survey complements the JIM studies on media behavior of young people in Germany, published annually since 1998, and was carried out in cooperation with SWR.

It is published by the Medienpädagogischer Forschungsverbund Südwest (MPFS), a cooperation between the Landesanstalt für Kommunikation Baden-Württemberg, the Medienanstalt Rheinland-Pfalz, and SWR. The study was described as representative at its presentation. In preparation for the survey, one-hour individual interviews were conducted with 20 young people.
