The Hamburg Foundation for Future Questions presented the Leisure Monitor 2026 on Tuesday, documenting a shift in the leisure behavior of people in Germany. The study shows that communal activities such as visits with friends, club meetings, or celebrations have become less frequent, while individually pursued pastimes are gaining importance.

A Shift in Everyday Life

The rise in listening to music is particularly striking. While in 2016, 52 percent of those surveyed said they listened to music at least once a week, the current survey puts that figure at 82 percent. This increase of 30 percentage points in just under a decade points to a trend toward quieter, often solitary leisure activities.
