Austria's judiciary is, according to its representatives, facing a stress test that calls the rule of law as a whole into question. In an APA interview, Gernot Kanduth, president of the judges' association, warns of the consequences of the long-standing staff shortage at the courts.
Kanduth Warns of Loss of Trust
Kanduth says verbatim: "Also, da wird nicht gespart." This statement is directed against austerity measures that, according to him, are already undermining the functioning of the judiciary. If the courts could no longer work, proceedings would take longer, the business location would suffer, and ultimately trust not only in the courts but in the rule of law as a whole would crumble.
