Klagenfurt, Austria — May 14, 2026
Hubert Dobrounig, a 60-year-old marketing and communications expert from Carinthia, was elected president of the Austrian Table Tennis Association (ÖTTV) early Thursday morning after a marathon general assembly that lasted until 1 a.m.
Dobrounig secured the position with a 23-17 vote against his rival, Rudolf Sporrer, in a closely contested election that followed months of turbulence within the association. The lengthy meeting in Klagenfurt included changes to the ÖTTV statutes and marked a turning point after the resignation of former president Wolfgang Gotschke in March.
Leadership Transition
Dobrounig, who currently serves as president of the Carinthian regional table tennis association, emphasized his commitment to transparency and collaboration. "Die Interessen müssen konstruktiv zusammengeführt werden," he said in a statement, adding, "Ich bin für eine respektvolle und lösungsorientierte Arbeitsbasis."
