Kiel, 14 June 2026
The Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) is sticking to its growth forecast for the German economy and expects gross domestic product to rise by 0.8 percent in the current year, while the fallout from the Iran war and rising commodity prices are dampening momentum.
Forecast for 2026 and 2027
Despite the tensions in the Middle East and a noticeable burden from higher energy prices, the Kiel Institute for the World Economy is sticking to its growth forecast for Germany. For the current year 2026, the Institute continues to expect gross domestic product (GDP) to rise by 0.8 percent. For 2027, however, the IfW lowered its forecast from 1.4 to 1.0 percent. According to the Institute, both figures are well below the gains seen in earlier upturns.
