Pyongyang, June 4, 2026

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for a drastic expansion of his country's nuclear weapons arsenal during a visit to a newly commissioned facility for the production of nuclear material, stating that production capacity has already more than doubled.

The production capacity for weapons-grade nuclear material has already more than doubled in the past five years and should increase "exponentially," Kim demanded, according to the state news agency KCNA. Kim had reportedly visited a newly commissioned production facility for nuclear material on June 3, 2025, and there demanded the radical expansion of nuclear forces. The report was published by KCNA on the same day.
