Pyongyang, August 31, 2026
North Korea has rejected the latest diplomatic outreach efforts by US President Donald Trump and reaffirmed its hard line against Washington.
The state news agency KCNA circulated a statement on Monday explicitly rejecting the recent US initiatives for talks. North Korea sees no basis in these signals for resuming dialogue, it said. The leadership in Pyongyang continues to link any rapprochement with Washington to conditions that are not accepted by the US side.
A spokesperson stated, according to KCNA, that the continuous expansion of the nuclear arsenal is the "most responsible and correct option to ensure peace and security in the region." With this wording, Pyongyang picks up the argument of nuclear deterrence that the leadership around Kim Jong Un has been advocating for years and now explicitly connects it to the rejection of US diplomacy.
