Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has announced a package of measures designed to relieve startups in Germany with better tax conditions and to strengthen the startup scene in Eastern Germany.

According to the Finance Ministry, the federal government is preparing a tax relief package specifically tailored to young companies and startups. The focus is on simplifications in loss offsetting, an improved research allowance, and plans to expand tax incentives for venture capital providers. The aim, it was said from Berlin, is to once again increase the competitiveness of Germany as a business location.

Klingbeil pointed to the ongoing founding dynamism in Germany, which remains stable despite the economic downturn and rising insolvency figures. At an event with young founders in Eastern Germany, he said the goal was to strengthen confidence in the location and specifically to promote those regions where economic structures were not yet fully established. In his assessment, the eastern German states could become a center for innovative new businesses if bureaucracy and the tax burden were noticeably reduced.
