Linz, 15 July 2026
A report by the auditing firm KPMG suggests that the City of Linz would receive only a very small amount for its stake in Linz Airport.
The valuation, commissioned by the owners, alludes to a scenario in which the provincial capital's aviation facility is sold. According to information, the result has in fact been in the hands of the City of Linz since the beginning of the week, even though no one officially wants to confirm this. As the report makes clear, the City of Linz is likely to get very little for its 50 percent stake in Linz Airport.
Ownership Structure and Starting Position
The City of Linz holds ownership of the airport together with the State of Upper Austria, with each owner holding a 50 percent stake. Against this backdrop, the valuation takes on immediate significance for the city's finances and for any potential sale or restructuring scenarios. Half an airport for one euro – this is how the report describes the pessimistic scenario that the valuation apparently reveals.
