Berlin, 22 October 2026

North Rhine-Westphalia’s Transport Minister Oliver Krischer said in Berlin on Thursday that a nationwide planned fare rule for individual journeys would not be capped to facilitate comparison with the Germany ticket.

Krischer made clear that the monthly price of the Germany ticket is not intended to serve as a maximum price for the total cost of any number of individual journeys under the planned rule for occasional travellers. He was responding to concerns that individual fares could become significantly more expensive under the new fare structure.

The planned rule applies nationwide to local public transport. A car journey, a single train journey or a short bus journey would not automatically be treated as though a passenger had used a Germany ticket.
