The Austrian Bundesliga football club LASK will kick off its new Champions League season on September 8 with an away match against AEK Athens.

The draw pitted the Linz side against the Greek club AEK Athens for their opening group-stage fixture. As a result, LASK's first European outing of the new season is scheduled early on. The match will take place in Athens, meaning the team must travel to Greece right from the start.

In preparing for the premier competition, head coach Didi Kühbauer had stressed that the squad changes had opened up new possibilities in the competition. In an interview, he said: "Natürlich ergeben sich jetzt andere Möglichkeiten". The coach was referring to the reinforcements the club had signed during the transfer window. Looking at the schedule, Kühbauer expressed confidence about navigating the group successfully.
