Innsbruck, Austria — May 15, 2026
The first examination hearing in the insolvency proceedings against the Laura Privatstiftung, a foundation tied to embattled real estate entrepreneur René Benko, opened Monday at the Innsbruck Regional Court amid claims exceeding €1.7 billion.
Complex Insolvency Proceedings
The Laura Privatstiftung, co-founded by Benko and his mother Ingeborg Benko in December 2006, holds stakes in numerous Austrian companies and was once active in international real estate deals. Its assets include properties in Germany and Italy, startup investments, and corporate participations. However, its value has sharply declined, with media reports indicating assets dropped from €750 million in mid-2023 to approximately €250 million in 2024 due to the devaluation of holdings and the Signa bankruptcy fallout.
