The historic 1968 express train SVT Görlitz has been returned to service after a restoration lasting more than five years and will be used for charter trips in the future.

The former flagship railcar of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in international service was handed over on Saturday in the Harz mountains in front of hundreds of onlookers, as reported by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur. Afterwards, the train set off on its inaugural journey to Magdeburg and then returned to Halberstadt. On Sunday it traveled from there via Halle and Leipzig to Radebeul, where it was welcomed with a celebration. Railway enthusiasts in Radebeul celebrated the return of the historic express train.
