Basel, 13 August 2026
At the Manor department store on Rebgasse in Basel, a Legionella outbreak is considered ended according to official assessment, as the cantonal health department announced on Thursday.
The outbreak had affected the headquarters of the Manor department store on Rebgasse. After elevated bacterial loads became known in shower water and pipe systems, those responsible immediately initiated remediation measures and treated the affected shower water. Bacterial samples from the pipe system initially showed critically elevated values, which is why the in-house drinking water supply was temporarily considered not usable without restrictions.
Authorities assess situation as stable
In the course of the past few days, the inspections carried out then showed a clear easing. As the Basel health department now announced, the detected values are back within the permissible range. The outbreak is thus considered ended. The authorities assess the situation as stable and see no reason for further restrictions.
