The exact facility was not publicly named; authorities and the city only spoke of an industrial facility. Disinfection measures had already been initiated or completed, it was further stated. Karl-Heinz Leismüller, responsible for health matters in the Linz city administration, had coordinated the information policy together with Martin Hajart in recent days. Both emphasized that the city would inform transparently about new findings. The central hotline of the city had been reinforced for citizen inquiries, it was said from City Hall.

Targeted outreach to risk groups

The city attaches particular importance to direct communication with risk groups. Older people, smokers, and persons with weakened immune systems are considered particularly susceptible to Legionella infections. The information campaign is therefore aimed specifically at these groups, for example via general practitioners, pharmacies, and senior care facilities.

In parallel, the epidemiological investigation is ongoing. Authorities are checking whether there have been additional suspected cases in Linz in recent weeks that could be linked to the current finding. The city announced that the results of the ongoing tests would be published in the coming days.

The economic consequences of the incident are, in the city's assessment, limited. The affected industrial facility is not a food-processing operation, it was said. Nevertheless, the Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Austrian Industry are closely monitoring the situation, as a prolonged shutdown of the facility could result in production losses.

Overall, the city of Linz is striving for de-escalation. According to information from City Hall, the crisis management team continues to meet daily. Should the situation change, the public would be informed immediately, the city emphasized.
