Wiesbaden, July 7, 2026

Average life expectancy at birth in Germany has reached new record levels, according to the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden: for women, the figure stood at 83.6 years in 2025, while for men it rose by roughly three months compared to the previous year.

As the agency announced, life expectancy at birth in Germany rose last year compared with the year before. According to the Federal Statistical Office, it stood at 83.6 years for women in 2025, three months higher than in 2024. For men, the figure increased by roughly three months compared to the previous year, "thus three months higher than 2024," as the office explained.

Record Levels for Women and Men

"Both sexes thereby reached new record levels," the office said from Wiesbaden. Women have since gained around nine months on average, while men have gained more than a year. The rise follows declines during the coronavirus pandemic: "During the Corona years there had been declines in life expectancy at birth," the Federal Office explained, "but since then it has been upward for women and men."

Regionally, however, there are marked differences. In the current period, Baden-Württemberg posted the highest life expectancy for both men and women – at 84.4 years for women and 80.3 years for men. "Baden-Württemberg has long been the federal state with the highest life expectancy at birth," the statistical office emphasized.
