Lower Saxony's Ministry of the Environment approved on Wednesday the planned cooperation of the Lingen fuel element factory with the Russian nuclear company Rosatom under atomic law; Environment Minister Christian Meyer (Greens) criticized the decision as "grundfalsch".

Background of the approval

The approval was granted on the day the report was published and, according to the Federal Ministry for the Environment, is issued under strict conditions. The Federal Ministry for the Environment announced on Wednesday that it views the cooperation with a Russian state corporation critically, but also pointed out: „Das geeignete Instrument, damit umzugehen, ist jedoch nicht das Atomrecht, sondern es wären EU-weite Sanktionen auch für den Nuklearbereich".
