Russia has banned the export of diesel fuel and intends to import gasoline and diesel during the current month in order to contain a nationwide fuel crisis, while Ukrainian drone attacks continue to weaken Russian energy infrastructure.

From Exporter to Importer

Russia is heading toward a historic turning point in the fuel market: for the first time, the resource-rich country itself wants to import fuel in order to ensure supply for its own population. According to the Kremlin, deliveries from Belarus, Kazakhstan, and by sea from India are to fill the gaps. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak had previously announced the export ban on diesel during a government meeting broadcast on television. "Today we have banned the export of diesel, which allows us to increase deliveries to the domestic market," Novak said. An export ban on gasoline, in place since April, had already been imposed earlier.
