Ludwigshafen, June 11, 2026

The 24-year-old Lorenzo Parrotta from Ludwigshafen won the title in the Pizza Contemporanea category at the unofficial Pizza World Championship in Naples on Wednesday evening.

As announced by the APN association (Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani), Parrotta beat out 612 pizza makers from 35 nations in the competition in the southern Italian metropolis. At 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday evening, it was confirmed on Italian soil: Ludwigshafen has a world champion. A total of 16 titles were awarded.

Parrotta's participation had already been considered likely in the run-up. As the reigning German Champion in the "Pizza Contemporanea" category – understood as modern Neapolitan pizza – his entry was almost a given. "It paid off: This year he won the German championship title in the 'Pizza Contemporanea' category – and no longer among amateur bakers, but among the professionals," it was stated. Prior to that, Parrotta had already won two German championship titles.
