Lisbon, November 3, 2026

Lufthansa and the Portuguese government have signed an agreement in Lisbon on the airline's entry into TAP Air Portugal.

The signing formally seals the planned acquisition of a minority stake in TAP. Lufthansa had already received the go-ahead from the Portuguese government for the investment in mid-October. The combination of the two parties' networks, growth potential, and strategic objectives forms the core of the agreement.

Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr explained the strategic significance of the investment, saying: "Unsere Netzwerke ergänzen sich ideal und eröffnen uns neben Portugal insbesondere in Südamerika und Brasilien neue Wachstumsperspektiven." The company is therefore focusing primarily on complementing existing routes and creating additional opportunities in Latin America.
