The 80-year-old Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva officially declared his candidacy for the October presidential election at a congress of his Workers' Party PT in São Paulo, presenting himself as ready for the fight both physically and politically.
Before thousands of supporters, Lula reaffirmed at the PT party congress in São Paulo his claim to another term. The head of state, who had already governed Brazil between 2003 and 2010, took the stage with a confident appearance and clearly set his sights on the autumn election campaign.
