The number of announced corporate acquisitions and mergers in Austria rose significantly in the first half of 2026 according to industry sources, with international buyers dominating the activity.

According to an analysis by the consulting firm EY, the number of transactions involving Austrian participation increased noticeably compared to the same period of the previous year. This continues a recovery that, according to industry sources, had begun in recent quarters. The consulting firm evaluates both announced and completed deals for its half-year balance.

Strategic investors from the USA, Germany, and other European neighboring countries are considered particularly active. Their share of announced takeovers has grown compared to the previous year, it was said. Financial investors from the private equity sector have also shown renewed greater interest in Austrian mid-sized companies and family-owned businesses.
