Karlovy Vary, July 11, 2026

The film "Obstpflücken" by director Aung Phyoe from Myanmar has won the main prize, the Crystal Globe for the best competition entry, at the 60th Karlovy Vary Film Festival.

The award was presented on Saturday evening at the closing gala in Karlovy Vary. The main prize is endowed with US$25,000, equivalent to just under €22,000. This year, the Crystal Globe thus goes to a film from Southeast Asia.

The work by director Aung Phyoe bears the translated title "Obstpflücken" and was selected by the international jury as the best competition entry of the festival. No details about the film's exact plot were initially released.

Prize for Best Actress

The prize for best actress went to the Swiss-Czech performer Anna Schinz for her role in the world premiere "A Happy Family". The 62-year-old became known to a broad audience, among other things, through the 1988 film adaptation of Milan Kundera's novel "Die unerträgliche Leichtigkeit des Seins".

The Karlovy Vary Film Festival is one of the oldest film festivals in the world. Founded in 1946, the event initially alternated with its Moscow counterpart and has since established itself as a fixture on the international festival calendar.
