A hedge fire near Flinsdorf in the municipality of Obritzberg-Rust (District of St. Pölten) spread to buildings and cars on Sunday afternoon, triggering a major operation involving eleven fire departments with 145 responders and 24 vehicles.

Cause and Initial Response

The Hain-Zagging fire department was alerted to the hedge fire near Flinsdorf at around 3:30 p.m. Due to the situation, the alert level was raised to B2 while units were still en route. Just a few minutes later, alert level B3 was triggered and a second aerial ladder platform was called in. As the fire department reported in a press release, a large column of smoke was visible.

A barn and several cars were fully engulfed in flames about 50 meters away. The flames also spread to the roof of a single-family house. With combined efforts, further spread of the flames could be prevented. A total of 145 firefighters responded to prevent the fire from spreading to additional buildings.
